Staffing vs. Recruiting: What you need to know

Staffing

In a nutshell, staffing consists of all the processes involved in finding suitable candidates to fill available roles within a company. It is all-encompassing and involves approaching, employing, screening, and selecting candidates for job openings. It is common for organizations to hire contractors for their staffing needs, and staffing agencies provide temporary workers. Staffing agencies recruit every day, every day, to help employers fill roles faster. Staffing is a continuous process where the agency will continue to support an employer and candidate to land multiple roles. 

Recruiting

On the other hand, recruiting can be considered a subset of staffing. It has a limited scope and involves many candidates applying for a vacant position. Often geared towards full-time candidates rather than part-time candidates, these positions usually take longer to fill. Both active (actively seeking) and passive (not actively seeking) employees are recruited for a job during the process. Advertisements or recruitment software connect applicants to a recruiter. Recruitment can take place both internally and externally. Further, recruiting is often a short-term process, meaning once an employee fills their role, the process is complete.
